Whether you are planning to have a full dinner at your reception or just a buffet of snacks and hors d’oeuvres, there are a lot of ideas for tying in the LOST theme. You really have a lot of freedom with the menu, but to stay with the theme, choose something that could actually be found on an island.
Stay with pork (like the boar found on the island), fish and other seafood, and tropical fruits. Something like smoked salmon for a main course served with fresh pineapple. If a buffet is more your style, then you can provide even more options. You could do salmon and pineapple skewers, fruit trays and buckets of fried chicken. Buy some KFC and cover the buckets with labels for Mr. Cluck’s Fried Chicken.
If the food wasn’t found around the island on LOST, then it was found in the hatch. The hatch was stocked with all kinds of items that had been shipped there by the Dharma Initiative. There are places online you can find a variety of Dharma labels to print and apply to different items. Print peanut or cashew labels and place those items on the tables for a snack. Apollo Bars were the candy brand of choice, so print labels to wrap around your favorite candy bars and have those out as one of the dessert options.
Also, one of the most important Dharma items on LOST was the Dharma beer. Make sure to cover cans and bottles of beer with Dharma labels for the bartenders or waiters to serve. But you should also have tropical cocktail drinks and wine available for those non-beer drinkers and a variety of juices for the underage and non-alcohol drinkers.
One of the most important pieces of any wedding is the cake. Talk to your cake decorator about what kind of things they can do. You could have a plane crash cake, with two halves of a plane and suitcases around it. Or just an island replica, like the one that was done on the show Ace of Cakes. Look it up, it’s amazing.
If you want to have a simple tiered cake but still want to tie it into the theme, include the Dharma or Oceanic logos somewhere on it. Or you may want to keep your main cake normal and just tie it into the color scheme but then have a groom’s cake that is more interesting and LOST-themed.
A little something extra: Organize your tables into 6 large tables, or just place the closest friends and family at 6 main tables and then have others at smaller tables. Label those main tables 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42.
